Jobs

Some, rather most organizations reject his CV today because he has changed jobs frequently (10 in 14 years). My friend, the ˜job hopper™ (referred here as Mr. JH), does not mind it. well he does not need to mind it at all. Having worked full-time with 10 employer companies in just 14 years gives Mr. JH the relaxing edge that most of the ˜company loyal™ employees are struggling for today. Today, Mr. JH too is laid off like some other 14-15 year experienced guys “ the difference being the latter have just worked in 2-3 organizations in the same number of years. Here are the excerpts of an interview with Mr. JH:

Q: Why have you changed 10 jobs in 14 years?

A: To get financially sound and stable before getting laid off the second time. Read the rest of this entry »

Quickie: Words

Speak/write and let your words be remembered, let them serve as an inspiration to others, let them encourage and give hope, let them bring understanding and revelation to the one confused and in doubt, let them be heard as a testimony of a great mind, let them be used to teach the coming generation. Lost Generation by Jonathan Reed

I am part of a lost generation
and I refuse to believe that
I can change the world
I realize this may be a shock but
“Happiness comes from within.”
is a lie, and
“Money will make me happy.”
So in 30 years I will tell my children
they are not the most important thing in my life Read the rest of this entry »

Quickie X: The Life

It’s the life we chose
Where work becomes home
And you think the stress won’t take you out before you know?

It’s the life we chose
Where dough becomes enthroned
And you let its lack lead you to your biggest low Read the rest of this entry »

Quickie: Better Days

Almost thought that I would not see this day
When the perils of the white house would fade away
Was perplexed thinking: would there be an end to this?
When depression without my inkling knocked on the door to my crib
The hardship, pain and the biting
Guilt from the failure they said we were courting
From grace we fell? I can’t tell Read the rest of this entry »

The story of your life is a summary of the choices you make day in day out and their additive consequences. It is basically a picture you paint as the years go by. For starters, choice has nothing to do with good or bad; right or wrong. It is a chosen line of action amidst other possible or “impossible” alternatives. I realize that the concept of choice can seem nonexistent when we find ourselves in certain situations. I also understand that this line of thought is flawed. We can make choices that eventually lead us to a point where it seems like we no longer have options; though unpopular or tilting towards impossible, an alternative exists. Interview With God

Saw this and it blew me away so I decided to share. Enjoy!

I dreamed I had an interview with God.

“So you would like to interview me?” God asked.

“If you have the time” I said.

God smiled. “My time is eternity.” Read the rest of this entry »

It was a long journey; 7 years of everything; the good, the bad and the in-betweens. Five months ago it came to an end and today the transition to the life-after complete. I took an hour to remember how it all began and inevitable I miss some of the times.

I miss my first night in OAU when I hooked up with my old friend Ivenso who introduced me to AY and IK and we drank beers and Chelsea till the wee hours of the morning (talk about starting off on the wrong foot!) Read the rest of this entry »

100%

Ever envied someone else with a great talent you wish you had? Ever wondered why the genius in your class had to read 20 times less and achieve 10 times more than you do academically? Ever thought about why some guy has a success rate of 80% with women when you have 10%? Ever been amazed why some people always know what to say at the right time and you don’t? Ever been appalled by the weakness of your business ideas when some make goldmines out of almost anything? Read the rest of this entry »

Say

Have you ever wondered what exactly other men tell women when trying to make their acquaintance? Well, women definitely have a way of not getting it when they should but you can’t help but suspect that guys sometimes do get it all wrong. I will not concern myself with the naive women who simply put up an attitude when the situation doesn’t demand one; I bother myself with the alternative. Read the rest of this entry »

Karma: Retribution concepts

My favourite Google define result for Karma: “Known also as the law of cause and effect or the law of retribution-karma is the principle that every action, good or evil, will eventually return to impact a person’s life.”

So there it is like we all know; action and reaction; cause and effect; every good and bad turn will produce another; bla bla bla. Anyway, my interest lies not in the definition of karma but rather in its manifestation. Yeah, what goes around surely comes around but with accrued benefits calculated over the number years it has taken karma to catch up with you! Look at this way, a good turn usually brings about a better turn over time and vice versa. Therefore I am proposing that we have 2 types of karma – instant and delayed – with emphasis on negative karma only. Read the rest of this entry »

Feeling Indispensable?

We are a special breed. We are good at what we do. We are proactive, we challenge the status quo, we like to be in the mix, we cherish innovation and creativity, we are quick to learn and adapt. As a reminder, this note is not for the lazy, the passive or the bench warmers. It is for go-getters!

Every day I strive to be the best in what I do. I try to stand out and be different. But with this zeal, productivity and the result comes another risk. I can easily start believing that I’m king and all but I try not to. What about you? Yes, your results and achievement speak for you but in the end you are just a part of a very big picture. Don’t ever be deceived; you are not the picture. Read the rest of this entry »

Bells of Freedom

Lovely song for peeps who can’t quit:

I have walked all alone
On these streets, I call home
Streets of hope, streets of fear
Through the sidewalk cracks, time disappears
I was lost, on my knees
On the eve of defeat Read the rest of this entry »

You think you’ve got it bad?

So sure at certain times you believed you were in a bad situation. You constantly think you deserve more than the world today offers you. You wonder why you can’t have most of what you want. The money is just never enough to wade through the demands of your so called middle class live. Yeah I know you (think you) don’t have enough.

Look around you. You see pain, hustling, fear and suffering. I was taking a walk musing on how I was going to get 400 grand to attend a conference in Brazil without going hungry. As far I was concerned things were not easy, money was scarce – I was spending enormous amounts everyday on a variety of things – money was really scarce. Read the rest of this entry »
