We are a special breed. We are good at what we do. We are proactive, we challenge the status quo, we like to be in the mix, we cherish innovation and creativity, we are quick to learn and adapt. As a reminder, this note is not for the lazy, the passive or the bench warmers. It is for go-getters!

Every day I strive to be the best in what I do. I try to stand out and be different. But with this zeal, productivity and the result comes another risk. I can easily start believing that I’m king and all but I try not to. What about you? Yes, your results and achievement speak for you but in the end you are just a part of a very big picture. Don’t ever be deceived; you are not the picture.

Let me share what a friend told me about believing that you are indispensable. Get a bucket and fill it with water. Clench your right fist and put your hand in the bucket making sure it gets to the bottom. Remove your hand from the bucket. The time it takes for the water to cover up the supposed hole that your hand should have left behind represents how indispensable you are.

Reality check: you are only as indispensable has your availability. Once you are out of the mix something or someone would take your place much sooner than you think.
So, remember your achievements are the ends, you are only the means and every end can be achieved through various means. Be smart.
